Darius's comment
The strongest is one - Stockfish.
Due to the tidying up of the Stockfish code, the strongest version is the one from the beginning of the year i.e. January 7, 2024. In the context of the development of this chess engine, this is a natural process of "cleaning up" and it is to be expected that the next developer versions will be stronger.
A pleasant surprise came from Berserk, whose latest development version is the strongest Berserk ever released! A clear No. 2 on our rating list.
The third engine on the podium is RubiChess, which is gradually increasing in strength.
I would like to emphasize the excellent performance of Berserk and RubiChess, which is not backed by a multitude of hundreds of participants involved in the development of these projects as in the case of Stockfish. And despite this, the strength of Berserk and RubiChess is cosmic.
Next on the rating list are close to second and third place, the well-known Clover, Seer and Caissa. These are engines that are able to win against any other, showing an interesting style of play and providing great excitement (Seer is one of the most impressively played top chess engine).
Alexandria, Akimbo, Strormphrax, Altair, Black Marlin, Viridithas - are "young wolves", ambitiously looking towards the elite of chess engines. Very strong, thriving and with great prospects for the future.
It is worth noting in January 2024 are:
-
Arasan 24.1 (3494 Elo), which is stronger than the previous version of Arasan 24 by as much as...132 Elo!! This is due to optimization for Apple Silicon processors by it's author Mr. Jon Dart.
-
Texel 1.11, which is stronger by as much as 67 Elo than its previous version reaching 3522 Elo ! This is also undoubtedly due to the author of this engine Mr. Peter Österlund, who made it possible to compile Texel in a way optimized for Apple Silicon CPU.
-
Stash 35.5 - a strong engine that still uses hand craft eval - reaching an excellent 3338 Elo.
I am very happy to see the presence of new players such as PlentyChess 0.2.0 (3416 Elo), Molybdenum 2.0 (3161 Elo), Zangdar 2.24 (3005 Elo) and many others, which achieve good results :)
I also added to the struggles of modern computer players the Senpai 1.0 chess engine by Mr. Fabien Letouzey (Fruit), soon to be 10 years since its release. Having been optimized for the Apple Silicon CPU (my small contribution), Senpai 1.0 proved to be a strong player reaching 3133 Elo!
I would like to highlight that, month by month I notice that more and more authors are introducing optimization capabilities for Apple Silicon processors (ARM architecture) into the source code of their engines. I am very happy about this, because it has a positive impact on the popularity of computer chess.
Looking at Chessengeria's visitor statistics, there are more and more Mac and Linux users interested in computer chess. And in addition, these optimizations make it easier to create more powerful engines for users other modern ARM CPU's.
Concluding my commentary on the January issue of MCERL, I would like to congratulate all the authors and those involved in the creation and development of chess engines for the results achieved. It is thanks to you that the community of computer chess supporters can enjoy such wonderful fruits of your labor :))
I wish you a pleasant reading,
Darius, owner of chessengeria.eu
